I have used Quicken probably longer than most of their developers have worked at Intuit. Each year new features are added in a hope that you will make your annual upgrade. I recommend waiting until enough of the “new” features are incorporated into the product before making the investment.

With that said, I don’t think it is reasonable to look at a competitors program as an option at least after you have several years of data and experience with Quicken. Quicken’s cash flow view is a huge addition to the tool. I also like the attachment feature, but wish it would accommodate bulk uploads or automatic statement download from a financial institution much like it does for transactions. A few versions back Quicken started phasing out support for QIF downloads, too bad many financial institutions haven’t updated their sites. Overall I give Quicken High marks, but its dependence on financial institutions to provide services for their software to be a full solution is frustrating to the consumer caught in-between.
The new Quick Books Pro 2008 Accounting Software, even makes first time users feel like they are professionals. With this program you can organize your business finances and generate all the reports and invoices that you will ever need. What makes this program so great is that you have everything you need all in once place. You don’t need to use multiple software programs to keep track of your finances.

There are over 100 templates included with this software so that you can create professional forms quickly. You can also use Outlook express to send your invoices via email. It also seems to be a lot easier to find your way around the program than some of the older versions of QuickBooks. This program will actually guide you through each step so you don’t have to worry about spending hours inputting the wrong information. Some of the best features of the Quick Books Pro is that you are able to print out statements for each individual client, and there are built in tutorials that will guide you through each process with ease. Quick Books Pro also offers call back support, but keep in mind that this is limited to the first 30 days after registration only. Keeping track of any business loans that you may have is also very easy with the Quick Books Pro software. If you are worried about being able to share data that you may already have on your computer before you install the program don’t. You can easily share with Excel, Word, and Outlook and even Peachtree data with the Quick Books Pro software. It will even guide you through the check writing process as well.
Another new feature is the coaching that is available to help you learn you r way around the program. Downloading cleared checks, and even credit card transactions is a breeze with the Quick Books Pro Software. The best part is that it helps to keep you organized for tax time. If you use this program to keep track of everything that goes on with your business when it is time to do your taxes you will have no problems at all. If you have Turbo Tax than you can export the data from you Quick Books Pro Software and your taxes will be done in no time. There is however a few problems with Quick Books Pro that should be mentioned. Many have had problems with the Customer Support. It seems that when you call to get help with the program the people you speak to know even less than you do. If however you take the time to read through each and every tutorial you may be able to figure the program out yourself instead of calling for help. Sometimes trying to take a shortcut can end up hurting you in the long run. Remember that the tutorials are there for a reason.
